Communicate 4.1.1

Communicate 4.1.1
Evaluation Methods and Communication Practices

Communication practices in the online environment correlate to effective feedback. If the instructor communicates with students directly and receives responses then the instructor know that the students are being reached and information is being shared. It is important for instructors to have open lines on communication with students - such as chat and discussion groups. During a class lecture students need to be able to ask questions. This is done by having chat and discussion groups available. This provides prompt feedback for students. Prompt feedback is necessary for students learning and understanding.

Authentic feedback is important for online students. They need to know that there is a "real live" teacher teaching the course. Instructors need to comment and provide personal feedback to each student. This helps promote a good learning environment where students can freely asks question and approach the teacher as they would if they were face to face. Students need to know that a person is there to help them not just a computer.

An instructor can enrich a students online learning experience in many ways. In an online learning environment where the classes are closed courses instructors can guide students on "how to learn". Instructors can assist in digital communication skills, how to find information, and how to collaborate with other students in an online classroom.
