LMS Tool Categories
The most important job of an educator is communication. That is true in a traditional face to face teaching environment as well as an online classroom. There are many rescources available in LMS (areas of student administration, instruction, content, communication, assessments, evaluation and feedback, analytics, learning object repositories, and ePortfolio) and all of these play an important role.
Communication relates directly to effective online instruction. Here are a few ways to communicate effectively with students and teachers in a LMS.
- Email - within the LMS
- Instant messaging - within the LMS (sometimes called paging)
- Discussion Boards (for class) - encourages student interaction - this is important since students do not see each other in class face to face
