Lecture Capture

This image illustrates how the recording of UICapture works in a classroom.

As found on TOOL: Lecture Capture relates to the asynchronous version of the virtual classroom, and the process of Lecture Capture allows teachers to capture and archive lectures and make these readily available to students via the Internet. Most often, Lecture Capture occurs in post-secondary or flipped classrooms.

How would the resource function in the online classroom?

Lecture capturing in the online classroom would be very beneficial. Suppose a Food and Nutrition teacher was doing a lesson on preparing healthy snacks. The teacher could film herself preparing the snack and post it to the online classroom. That way students could view the presentation as many times as they need to. The teacher could also pause and talk in depth about what she is doing in the video.

How would the integration of Lecture Capture modify teaching methods?

The integration of lecture capture would modify teaching methods by allowing students to revisit the lecture. They would have the ability to stop or pause to ask questions or to take a break. Teachers would be able to create a "library" of lectures to refer students to. It would become a great resource for both students and teachers.
