Ideal Digital Learning Community Quest

An ideal Digital Learning Community:

Characteristics:
  • A professional, safe and secure site
  • Global access
  • A vast variety of subject areas would be available
  • Contributors would be recognized for outstanding work 
  • Participants would be currently enrolled at an accredited school, college or university. 
Features that would set an ideal DLC apart from and above others would be
  • Live question and answer features
  • Links to videos and lectures from a variety of sources on a vast array of topics
  • A social networking aspect (chat, messenger, profiles with pictures)
  • Online live study and discussion groups
  • A user would be redirected to the cohort to which they belong - high school, undergraduate, graduate, doctoral
In order to gain admittance, potential citizens of the DLC would be enrolled at an accredited school, college, or university. For a user to be allowed to post answers and contribute to the DLC they must first complete an online basic assessment of reading comprehension, math, and verbal skills.

To bring this DLC to fruition, a collaboration would be needed between educators and IT professionals to create the site. School districts, colleges, and universities would contribute lectures, videos, and resources to the site. Advertisements would be sold in order to fund the DLC.

In order to make the DLC more welcoming for students and teachers, a short tutorial would be available once you log in to the DLC. The DLC would be visually appealing and easy to navigate.
