Digital Health
With our societies constant use of technology it is important to maintain good digital health. Practicing good digital health means :
- adjusting your posture when sitting at a desk and using a computer
- having a balance in life between time spend using technology and time spent exercising so that our body is able to perform at its best
- completely unplug - go outside, talk to friends, have a hobby
Here in a screenshot of my digital calendar. I have added a few items to help me practice good digital health. It is also a good idea to set reminders on your digital calendar so that you are alerted when it's time to practice good digital health!
In my calendar I added a few things to help me remember to practice good digital health. The first thing is to sit up straight! This is something that I need to practice daily. When looking at a computer it is important to do this since the posture is so different from standing. Second, is to take a walk. Going outside and breathing fresh air really helps to get you going! Dinner with friends is another way to unplug and connect face to face with friends. And before bed, turn off your phone. It's nice to have a little time before bed to not think about checking email or looking at social media. These few things really do make a difference!
The most proactive means of ensuring the most balanced blend of technology and well-being is to not become consumed by the Internet and technology. It is good to know when to turn the computer off and go outside. Our bodies need fresh air. Our eyes need a break from looking at a computer screen. If you have a hard time stepping away from your computer because you simply loose track of time you can always set a reminder or a timer to alert you that computer time is up - go outside!
Students and teachers can get the most from technology while simultaneously safeguarding good health by being able to balance time spend using technology and time spend outside or away from technology. It is also important to maintain social face to face relationships - not just those on the Internet.
